01Two labelled jobs, two strengths
PROPECIA is 1 mg once daily for male pattern hair loss in men. PROSCAR is 5 mg once daily for BPH. Mixing the bottles mixes the indication row.
Doubling a 1 mg hair tablet does not become BPH therapy. Halving a 5 mg tablet is not the labelled hair product.
02Why 5 mg PSA literature is a different visit
The approximately 50% PSA drop is written from 5 mg BPH studies. The 1 mg hair studies reported 0.7 to 0.5 ng/mL at month 12. Bring the bottle you actually swallow.
Gleason 8-10 findings in PCPT were in men on 5 mg, five times the Propecia dose. The Propecia label says the clinical significance of those findings for 1 mg users is unknown. Do not treat a hair tablet as a silent PCPT enrollment.
03Is Finpecia 1 mg a cheap 5 mg?
No. If the carton says 1 mg, it is the hair strength. It is not a starter pack for BPH. It is not a reason to hide a 5 mg leftover 'for later'.
US windows that stock generic finasteride will ask which strength the script named. Answer 1 mg if the job is hair.
04What the indication row on the script should say
Hair: androgenetic alopecia, finasteride 1 mg daily. Prostate enlargement: the 5 mg product, written as that product. A clerk who 'just gives you the cheap one' is choosing a strength, not helping.
Do not treat a 5 mg listing as Finpecia. The 1 mg vault will not print a 5 mg cash figure.
05What to do if the vial says 5 mg
Do not split it on the counter. Call the pharmacy and the prescriber. Ask for the 1 mg product that matches the hair line.
Keep fragments away from anyone who may be pregnant until you return the bottle.
06Why a kitchen split of 5 mg is a handling problem
Crushed or broken finasteride tablets are the form women who may be pregnant should not handle. A pill cutter turns 5 mg into dust and fragments.
The crushed-tablet probe is the pregnancy page. This one only answers 'is 1 mg the 5 mg course?'
