02Why a male fetus is the named risk
Finasteride blocks Type II 5-alpha-reductase. DHT is needed for normal development of male genitalia. Abnormal external genitalia in male fetuses is the expected class effect when that conversion is blocked in pregnancy.
Pregnancy is a contraindication on this 1 mg label. The hair tablet is not a women's drug with a special chapter.
03Does an export name drop the handling line?
Crushed-tablet handling stays whenever the tablet is finasteride 1 mg. The monograph on the 1 mg vault repeats it. This probe is only the pregnancy-handling job.
Do not hide the bottle. The person who might become pregnant needs to know what not to touch.
04What the semen study actually measured
Semen levels were measured in 35 men taking finasteride 1 mg/day for 6 weeks. In 21 of 35 samples, finasteride was undetectable (below 0.2 ng/mL). The mean was 0.26 ng/mL. The highest value was 1.52 ng/mL.
Using that highest semen level and assuming 100% absorption from a 5 mL ejaculate per day, estimated vaginal exposure was up to 7.6 ng per day. The label compares that with a 5 microgram dose that did not change circulating DHT in men. Couple counselling still belongs to the clinician.
05What to do after skin contact
If a pregnant woman comes in contact with crushed or broken tablets, the contact area should be washed immediately with soap and water. Do not wait for a clinic callback to wash.
Then call the clinician who knows the pregnancy. This page will not invent a blood test or an antidote dose.
06Why the film coat matters on a whole tablet
PROPECIA tablets are coated and will prevent contact with the active ingredient during normal handling, provided the tablets have not been broken or crushed. That is a handling sentence, not a cooking tip.
A pill cutter on the kitchen counter defeats the coat. The split note is the dose-form page. This one is the pregnancy exposure page.
