Can you take nitrates with Viagra?

No. Organic nitrates and nitric oxide donors in any form, regular or intermittent, are contraindicated with sildenafil. After a tablet, it is unknown when a nitrate, if later needed, can be safely given. Plasma at 24 hours after 100 mg is about 2 ng/mL versus a peak near 440 ng/mL, and the insert still will not clear a home spray. This vault features 25-50 mg; the wall is the same at both.

01Can nitrates share a chart with Viagra

Forest-green still life: nitrate bottle in shadow, blue tablet on the far edge

No. The insert forbids nitric oxide donors such as organic nitrates or organic nitrites in any form. That includes isosorbide, nitroglycerin tablets, patches, and sprays.

A 25 mg stamp does not create an exception. Neither does a 'only when I have chest pain' bottle in a drawer.

02What unknown when means after a swallow

After patients have taken Viagra, it is unknown when nitrates, if necessary, can be safely administered. That is the gap this page names.

Do not invent a home countdown. Chest pain is emergency care.

03What riociguat does on the same wall

Riociguat is contraindicated with sildenafil. The shared pathway is cGMP. Shop language that softens this to 'heart issues, ask someone' is not the insert.

The sildenafil 25-50 mg vault lists both walls. An erection past four hours is a different emergency.

04How 24-hour plasma compares with peak

After a single 100 mg oral dose in healthy volunteers, plasma at 24 hours is about 2 ng/mL compared with a peak of about 440 ng/mL. In older men, hepatic or severe renal impairment, or with erythromycin or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, 24-hour levels have been 3 to 8 times higher than in healthy volunteers.

Even with that drop from peak, the insert still says it is unknown whether nitrates can be safely co-administered at 24 hours.

05When chest pain is emergency care

Chest pain on a nitrate-era chart, or chest pain after a 50 mg swallow, is not a forum question. Call emergency services.

This inbox cannot clear a spray by email.

06Why a home washout clock is not a clearance

Emergency clinicians may later consider a nitrate with blood-pressure support available. That is not a kitchen timer. Do not time a spray yourself.

Treat chest pain as chest pain. Say that sildenafil was taken.

Bruno T. He takes isosorbide. Any gap after 50 mg?

Vault reply

No home gap. Nitrates are contraindicated. After sildenafil it is unknown when a nitrate can be safely given.

Keiko W. 24 hours later the level is only 2 ng/mL. Spray then?

Vault reply

The insert still says it is unknown whether nitrates can be safely co-administered at that time point. Do not time a spray yourself.

Andre S. Does 25 mg make a nitrate safer?

Vault reply

No. The contraindication is not strength-specific.
