01Which other tablet strengths still exist
Generic prednisone still ships in several milligrams besides 10. The vault locks 10 mg because that is the Deltasone strength this site follows. A 5 mg or 20 mg bottle is a different order.
The 10 mg lock probe lists the brand faces. Keep this page on the generic name.
02How a generic 10 mg bottle is labelled
Prednisone Tablets USP 10 mg state Rx only and name prednisone as the active ingredient. Inactive fillers differ by manufacturer. Those fillers are not a second steroid.
If the bottle says 20 mg, the clerk filled a different stamp. Do not split a 20 mg tablet to invent the 10 mg line unless the written plan says to split.
03Why the imprint may not say DELTASONE 10
Brand 10 mg tablets were white, round, scored, and imprinted DELTASONE 10. Generic 10 mg tablets use the manufacturer's own score and code. Patients who hunt for the old word on the face will miss a correct fill.
Ask the pharmacist to read the milligram and the INN aloud. That pair is the check. The old brand face is not.
04What brand Deltasone printed as the active drug
Pfizer-era Deltasone tablets contained prednisone. The 10 mg strength was one of five listed brand tablets: 2.5, 5, 10, 20, and 50 mg. The active moiety did not change when generic houses took the same INN.
Counselling that sits next to the 10 mg lock lives on the prednisone vault. This page only settles the generic question.
05When to keep the same milligram after a switch
Keep 10 mg if 10 mg is what the clinician wrote. Do not 'step up' to 20 mg because a shop ran out of tens. Do not 'step down' to 5 mg and double the count unless that arithmetic is written.
Name changes on the label do not change HPA or infection counselling. Those jobs stay on the pulses.
06What substitution keeps and what it drops
Substitution keeps prednisone as the INN and should keep the written milligram. It drops the brand paint and the old imprint. It does not drop the need for a prescription.
If two generic houses look different week to week, the milligram and the INN still have to match the slip. Call the pharmacy if either one drifted.
