01If you already used an alcohol rinse on Flagyl
Cramps, nausea, vomiting, headache, and flushing are the listed reaction. If that cluster starts, treat it like any other ethanol exposure on this drug. Urgent care if you are vomiting and lightheaded.
Then count three days from the last 250 mg tablet before you use that rinse again. One 'I already slipped' does not reset the insert.
02When a mouthwash hold ends
Same clock as a glass of wine: during the course and at least three days after the last swallow. Finishing the pack at noon does not open a mint rinse that night.
250 mg versus 500 mg does not shrink that wait. The milligram stamp is a different probe.
03Why metal in the mouth is not a reason to rinse with alcohol
Metallic taste is a listed oral effect. An alcohol mouthwash will not fix it and can trip the hold. Use the coping on the taste pulse instead.
Furry tongue or stomatitis still needs a call if it is severe. Do not self-treat that with a strong ethanol rinse during the course.
04Why you will not find the word rinse
The contraindication and counseling blocks say alcoholic beverages and propylene-glycol products. They do not inventory every liquid that contains them. A dental rinse with ethanol sits in that group by composition, not by brand name.
Cough syrups and some other liquids can carry the same two ingredients. The pulse already lists hidden sources. This job is the rinse on the sink.
05When the dentist wrote both Flagyl and a rinse
Say you are on metronidazole 250 mg before they hand you an alcohol rinse. They can pick an alcohol-free product or a salt-water plan for those days.
Do not 'just swish and spit' an ethanol rinse on the theory that little is swallowed. The insert does not give a spit exception.
06What to look for on the mouthwash label
Alcohol, ethanol, SD alcohol, or propylene glycol on the inactive list. If those words are there, keep the rinse off until three days after the last 250 mg tablet.
If the panel says alcohol-free and has no propylene glycol, that bottle is not the labelled ethanol product. Still read it. Formulas change.
