Does a Flagyl trichomoniasis course include a partner?

Yes, when the diagnosis is T. vaginalis. Asymptomatic sexual partners should be treated at the same time if the organism has been found, so one person does not reinfect the other. If a male partner has a negative culture - or no culture was tried - the decision is individual, with the note that a woman may be reinfected if he is not treated. Negative smears in an asymptomatic man are hard to trust. In reinfection, treat the partner. CDC still pauses sex until both courses finish and symptoms settle. The 250 mg vault keeps that chart note.

01What CDC adds about sex during treatment

Forest-green still life: two place settings, one blister shared as a pair

CDC trichomoniasis guidance still wants both partners treated and sex paused until therapy is done and symptoms have settled. That pause is not a Flagyl HOW SUPPLIED line. It is the public STI file many US clinics follow next to the insert.

A 'we felt fine so we didn't wait' story is how reinfection returns. The insert already warned that an untreated partner can send the organism back.

02What happens if trichomoniasis comes back

In any event, the sexual partner should be treated with Flagyl in cases of reinfection. A second solo seven-day blister for one person does not close that loop.

Repeat courses, when required, wait four to six weeks and need a new laboratory confirmation plus leukocyte counts. That is the course-length page.

03What not to do with the 250 mg bottle

Do not split a seven-day bottle so two people each take half. Dose and day count are written per person. First-trimester trichomoniasis is contraindicated; a partner who may be pregnant needs their own visit.

Alcohol holds apply to whoever swallows metronidazole. The calendar is three days after each person's last tablet.

04When the partner is treated at the same time

T. vaginalis is a venereal infection on the Flagyl insert. Asymptomatic partners of treated patients should be treated simultaneously if the organism has been found. That is the clean labelled case.

Your leftover 250 mg tablets are not the partner's prescription. They need their own written line and their own day count.

05Why the first course still needs a lab

Symptomatic trichomoniasis is treated when the trichomonad has been confirmed by wet smear and/or culture. Asymptomatic infection in women is indicated when the organism sits with endocervicitis, cervicitis, or cervical erosion.

After eradication, extra smears may be needed because the parasite can interfere with reading abnormal cytology. That is a follow-up smear job, not a reason to keep leftover tablets 'just in case'.

06When the male culture is negative or missing

Whether to treat an asymptomatic man with a negative culture, or with no culture attempted, is an individual decision. The insert still notes evidence that a woman may become reinfected if her partner is not treated.

Isolating the organism from an asymptomatic male carrier can be difficult. Negative smears and cultures cannot be relied on in that setting. The clinician who has both charts makes the call.

Answers follow the U.S. Flagyl label.

Ramon C. Partner was not treated. Do I restart my leftover Flagyl 250 mg?

Vault reply

No. Leftovers are not a new prescription. The insert wants the partner treated in reinfection. Get current labs and two written lines.

Irene T. His culture was negative. Skip his tablets?

Vault reply

That decision is individual. Negative smears in an asymptomatic man are hard to trust. A woman may be reinfected if he is not treated.

Daria K. Can we share my seven-day 250 mg pack?

Vault reply

No. Each person needs a written course. Sharing under-doses both of you.
